Alston Moor Historical Society is currently run by a small committee of committed individuals. We have specialists in archiving and cataloguing, oral and photographic history, and some who are more practical or organisationally minded.
AMHS is always looking for people to get involved, to bring in more expertise and experience that can be shared to make the society bigger and better.
The society is also looking to offer opportunities to the local community, and those farther afield, and is developing a volunteer strategy, for want of a better term. As part of this, the variety of roles available within the society will be clearly laid out, each with its own processes and time-commitment detailed. Full training will be offered for each of these.
Opportunities may include:
scanning and/ or cataloguing acquisitions donated to the society;
staffing the archive and chatting to people who visit;
promoting the society at local events;
searching the archive and organising displays to support our monthly talks;
arranging exhibitions.
Volunteers will be supported by a volunteer coordinator and have the chance to get together regularly with other volunteers to share their thoughts and ideas.
We are hoping to launch this in Autumn 2024 and will keep people informed via our monthly newsletter. In the meantime, if you have an ideas, or want to get involved, please get in touch.
